We are looking for: Medior Embedded Software Engineer

Medior Embedded Software Engineer

32-40 hours | Delft

We are expanding our team with a Medior Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain reliable software for our flow meters and energy monitoring solutions. At VPInstruments, we create smart measurement systems that help industries reduce energy waste, and you’ll play a key role in advancing our mission to make the invisible visible in industrial energy flows. If you enjoy working closely with hardware, solving real engineering challenges, and seeing your code run on real devices, you’ll feel right at home in our R&D team.

What we do

VPInstruments mission is to make the world a better and more sustainable place by eliminating industrial energy waste. We do this by developing, producing, and supplying instrumentation and monitoring software for compressed air and technical gases. Our products can be found in many industrial production plants, for example glass production, food and beverages, automotive, pharmaceutical plants, all over the world. We thrive on innovation and with our R&D department we work on improving our products and designing new state-of-the-art products, which we manufacture ourselves.

What can you expect in the role of Medior Software Engineer?

Most of your work will focus on embedded firmware development on microcontrollers, with a smaller portion dedicated to creating lightweight Qt-based tools.

Embedded Software Development (70%)

  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware (C/C++) for Microchip/Atmel and Renesas platforms.
  • Integrate sensors and industrial interfaces using I²C, SPI, RS485, Modbus RTU.
  • Implement algorithms for signal processing, calibration, and basic control.
  • Contribute to code reviews and follow clean coding practices.

Application-level (30%)

  • Build and maintain small Qt/QML desktop utilities supporting configuration, diagnostics, and production processes.
  • Write scripts or small tools (e.g., in Python or bash) to support development workflows.

You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive R&D team that values practical engineering, clarity, and good humor, working on products used worldwide to reduce energy consumption. Your ideas will matter, you’ll see the impact of your work within days. You will have access to an R&D lab with custom-built test setups, hardware tools and room to explore. You’ll enjoy a balanced mix of embedded challenges, hardware interaction, and just enough Qt to keep things interesting.

What we would expect from you:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on embedded software development experience.
  • Strong skills in C and C++ for microcontroller platforms.
  • Experience with sensor integration and common communication protocols (I²C, SPI, RS485, Modbus RTU/TCP).
  • Experience with git, build systems like CMake, unit testing, and development on Windows and Linux.
  • Good communication skills in English (Dutch is a bonus).
  • You are available for 32 to 40 hours per week
  • Living within ~30 km of Delft or willing to relocate in the near future.

Nice to have (but not required)

  • Experience with Qt/QML for desktop tooling.
  • Knowledge of RTOS environments (FreeRTOS or similar).
  • Familiarity with energy measurement or industrial instrumentation.

What can you expect from us

You’ll join an informal, close-knit company with a young and ambitious team of about 18 people. We like to challenge ourselves and be the best in what we do.
